This is a seed violin!
No, a seed violin is not a musical instrument, but a device for spreading seed or fertilizer over the field. That works as follows. The seed to be sown is placed into the container. The sower then hangs the box around his shoulder with a belt or rope. There is an opening at the bottom of that box. The seed falls through this opening onto a horizontal impeller. By pulling the stick of the sowing violin back and forth, the impeller is moved and the seed is thrown over the field. That was a great improvement over hand sowing, because the seed is spread much more evenly in this way. The movement made with the stick to move the paddle wheel is reminiscent of playing a violin, hence the name. The seed violin fell into disuse due to the advent of the seed drill.
